One of the many wonderful things about Finland …


… is the purity of line in Finnish design. It echoes the simplicity of the landscape: water, forest, snow. The architecture blends in sympathetically, with the possible exception of some of Helsinki’s Stalino-brutalist apartment blocks. Indeed, parts of Helsinki are still used as stand-ins for location filming in “Moscow”.

Nevertheless, what could better exemplify the Finns’ delightfully minimalist approach than the reductio ad absurdum of the map of the Helsinki underground?
