Look at this report on the BBC News website:


There is so much that’s sloppy and wrong with it.

A company is a single entity, in both law and syntax, so it should be “Research in Motion, the maker of … is expected”.

Then it briefly gets it right with “The company, which hopes ..”. The good times don’t last, however, as the report immediately swerves off-course again with “.. can revive their fortunes..”, before juddering back to the singular form with “.. its market share..”.

Ah well, at least there’s nothing wrong with the final sentence.
